Saving the boobies

Literally straight after moving back to Brisbane we saw so many stickered 4WDs with Dirty Down Under logos within just the first month. That’s not even to mention the 4x4s we saw covered all out in pink! After that we simply had to know what it was all about and that’s how we came to discover the DDU 4×4 Pink Run.

Dirty Down Under (or DDU for short) is a Brisbane based 4WD group which boasts a pretty impressive membership of over 18,000 people on Facebook. The group is a great place for 4×4 tips/chat and sourcing awesome local locations to visit. However, it’s probably also fair to say that the pinnacle event each year is the DDU 4×4 Pink Run.

So ‘what’s a 4×4 Pink Run?”

Firstly, you start with literally HUNDREDS of 4WDs in the one space for an event. Now picture those 4x4s decorated from wheel to roof rack in as much pink as you can possibly imagine. Yup real 4×4’s wear pink! Add to that the crazy, dedicated participants that dress head to toe in pink. Next, throw in some sand and some surf – yup stunning Teewah Beach on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Then lastly, but most importantly, add a very worthy cause, being Breast Cancer Awareness, and that’s the DDU 4×4 Pink Run.

Commitment

Tanya, Brendan and a crew of dedicated admins spend countless days and weeks each year coordinating the event which raises funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Registrations are usually open to somewhere in the vicinity of 400 vehicles so that’s one huge sea of pink! You’ve got to get in early though as registrations generally sell out each year.

The event has raised a whopping $185,000+

for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to date

…not to mention the huge awareness this event creates.

Sponsorship

Funds are raised via a mega raffle. The prizes are absolutely amazing and include big ticket items like camping fridges, kayaks, BBQs, solar kits and so on. Tickets are $10 each and 100% of the money raised goes directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation so whether you win in the raffle or not you’re still contributing to a great cause.

OFF THE TRAX  have been proud sponsors and official event photographers for the last two years (2017 and 2018).

In 2019 the 4×4 Pink Run will be held on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of October. In an exciting change for the event it has moved location to Noosa North Shore Retreat. This means less travel time, more shade along with loads of other benefits. There’s camping, glamping or cabin accommodation available as well as live entertainment on Saturday night.

Sadly we’re on the other side of the country this year but if you’re in South East Queensland, check it out and support a great cause.
